SCHOOL BOARD

STRENGTHEN LEARNING

People excel in different ways. While we don't want to create a special class of privileged students at the expense of everyone else, we have a responsibility to support students with specific abilities.

EDUCATIONAL EQUITY

We need a schooling system where each individual child receives what THEY need to develop to THEIR full academic, creative, and social potential.

ADDRESSING PARENT DISSATIFACTION

Corvallis public school enrollment has decreases over 12.5%  since 2019 while Corvallis population has grown and local private schools have seen huge increases in enrollment. We need to address why this is.

WHY
I AM RUNNING

“Education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction.” -MLK

Corvallis was once known for its exemplary public school system. I was a beneficiary of this. Now, as a mom of two, I have experienced first-hand a system that falls short. Our wonderful teachers struggle to control classrooms. In the name of educational fairness, individual learning and extra-curriculars are being removed. I believe in educational equity, which means each child receives what they need to develop to their FULL academic, creative and social potential.

Over the next few years, we can expect huge budget shortfalls. This is due to poor planning and a loss of students. I want to ensure our teachers and students are the priority when cuts are made. In addition, I want to see the district address the loss of parent confidence, which is reflected in the number of students transferring out of our public schools. Despite a population growth in Corvallis, between 2019-24 the Corvallis School District lost 12.5% of its student body, while private schools increased their population by 33% (Ashbrook) and 20% (Santiam Christian.) Philomath School District has seen little change in enrollment with 1,649 students enrolled in 2019, and 1,640 in 2024.

I want to help ensure we do our absolute best, as a community, for our children and that each one is given tools to excel.
